Scottrade is very user friendly

I can't say that I have any complaints about using Scottrade. The site is very user friendly and their "Streaming Quotes" tool is very useful.

There are many tools to analyze the performance and trends of a stock, and the charting tools are fairly customizable.

Best of all, online trades are $7.00. Sure you can find cheaper commission costs out there, but I'm not so sure that the cheaper brokers have as much to offer.

When setting up your account you select the home office that is closest to you. I have moved three times in the last two years around the Dallas-Ft.Worth area and have always had a local office within 10 minutes of my home or office.

The few times that I have had to call my local branch with questions they have always been very helpful. I have never been put on hold, and never had to wait for someone to call me back.

If you are new to investing and want to make your own trades online, or if you are an expert investor looking for an all-in-one site. I highly recommend Scottrade.

Excellent Value

I have had accounts with Scottrade since 2006 and have never experienced any problems. Here are what I think the best things about Scottrade are:

1. Great commissions ($7/trade no matter how many trades/month)
2. Low ($500) minimum initial deposit
3. No minimum account balance or account maintenance fees
4. Lots of branch offices - you call your local office instead of some random call center
5. Great customer service (see previous)
6. Allowed to purchase securities with unsettled funds

Overall, Scottrade is a great value broker for the independent investor who likes managing money online. The research on the site is okay, and I like to supplement it with research on other sites as well.

I have never had a problem with a trade not being executed.
I have never had a problem with depositing or withdrawing funds.

Around a year ago or so Scottrade also started offering Visa debit cards linked to brokerage accounts, but you do need to maintain a higher minimum balance to qualify for it.

Scottrade Review

I joined Scottrade after tiring of Ameritrades $10 trading fees and other hidden fees that aren't publicized in any of their advertisements. Scottrades online software and instructional videos will educate in a very systematic manner even the beginning investor. Their branch offices are everywhere which is good if you want to wire money to and from your trading account. I was very surprised there are 5 offices in my location withing a 30 minute drive. I'm completely satisfied with the customer support at Scottrade and would not think about switching broker houses anytime soon.

Some ups and downs

Trades generally execute rather quickly however paying for trades is a downfall when compared to free trade websites. There have also been numerous times when I try to log into the site during the trading day and the site is down because of issues and you cant view your account or make trades online...not the best issue for an online broker when reliability of a website matters.

I have had great experience with Scottrade. They have $7 trades and I was never overcharged for anything. I have been a member of scottrade for about 5 years now, and I am beginning to buy mutual funds. Their mutual fund center is the best as well, so many funds to choose from and many of those you can purchase for free! I especially like their customer service. They are always in the office and you actually get to talk directly with a human being instead of a robot, and they are very helpful, and know what they are talking about. Thanks Scottrade!

I began online trading (real money) in Jan '08 with Scottrade. My main reason for going with Scottrade was the cost per trade ($7). This was because of the small amount of money I had to trade with, I didn't want fees to eat into any of my profits.

I gave them a neutral rating because as I have had more and more time to explore their site and services, I see where there are areas that could use some improving. Just to be clear, I am not saying that I am a pro at this, nor do I know how to do everything on their site, this is just my experience!

First the things I like: The quotes are real time, I have never had a problem with placing a trade, and there are many local branches that accept deposits, withdrawals, and give general assistance with your account.

Now the things I think could use some tweaking: The stock screener options is where I find the most trouble - It is only user friendly for professionals in my opinion, they are supposed to be setup so that even beginners like me can understand it. I believe it would be better if they allowed you to personalize this to your level of understanding. You can only select ranges (5%-10%), or in the market cap, I prefer to type in less than 5.0B or greater than 1.5B. the ratios need help as well, most are rarely used, and some are not included (5yr revenue growth, acid test, etc...). these can all help in a investors research on stocks. Secondly the news section(s) in the detailed page on stocks are something to be desired. Most of it is useless and your better off reading the local paper for news about your stocks.

reasonably priced, reliable service

Overall, I've been very satisfied with the service I've received from Scottrade. Almost all trades are $7, including limit orders. Their interface is straightforward, and I get my 1095's on time. When I've dealt with Scottrade employees over the phone, they have been professional and courteous.

A few years back, Scottrade had a security problem with their third-party online funds transfer. They have now gone to a different third-party system. This new system doesn't recognize my routing numbers, so I deposit checks by mail (adding 40 cents to the $7 brokerage fee!). Checks are usually deposited to my account a day or so after they are received.

Scottrade's tools for tracking the performance of your individual assets and portfolio are fairly basic (you can't get a chart of more than the past 6 months), so I recommend also using Yahoo finance or a similar tool to track your portfolio.

Great. Tried Etrade and it was a nightmare. They purposefully delayed closing my account and held funds with only empty excuses as to why. I have never had that problem with Scottrade. I use it for short/mid term trades. I use USAA for my retirement trades.

Flat trading fee of $7.00. Lots of no-load mutual funds.

The only qualm I have about this service is that there is no method of using ACH to transfer money into or out of the brokerage account. I live 30 miles from the closest branch so I would like some online capabilities for money transfer.

Scottrade- The Easy Way to Trade

by jmhunter14 (1)

Since opening my Scottrade account the experience has been phenomenal.

They provide a complete suite of tools to help in researching potential investments. They additionally provide free in person tutorials on how to use the software if you are willing and able to travel to their local branch office. Their telephone support and friendliness is superb.

Additionally, they waived the $500 minimum account balance to begin with so I can play around with a little less risk until I am comfortable enough to jump in with more capital.

Their $7 per trade fee is dirt cheap but get a referral code from a friend and you get three free trades for yourself and your friend.

Trading with Scottrade has been a great experience, I highly recommend them to anyone looking to either start trading online or just unsatisfied with their current online brokerage.

Low Cost Online Broker with a Variety of Features

I really love Scottrade - $7 online trades for most stocks. Also the ability to trade options, mutual funds, bonds, etc. They offer an online platform as well as a java applet with streaming quotes. Both are very good and contain a lot of information for traders and investors.

Their knowledge center and research tools are great too. Easy to find the best performing industries by sectors and the best companies in those industries. Help text is also an easy to use, plain English tool for technical analysis signals on stock charts.

I've never had to call customer service, so I don't know what they're like on the phone - but I think the fact that I've never called with any problems is also another good sign. I would highly recommend Scottrade.

Scottrade's staff has consistently provided professional yet personable service to me whether by phone or in any of their local offices.

Their execution price of $7/trade is excellent, and their ScottradeElite client is an excellent tool to watch the markets and run simple models.

I have yet to have an execution go even remotely sour due to a failure on Scottrade's part. I have always had perfect, clean executions. I also find their GainsKeeper reports to be extremely useful when tracking stocks that I've been holding long or short.

I have had nothing less than a stellar experience with Scottrade. Having a local branch near my residence is wonderful and each time I make a phone call I am welcomed and given quick response regardless of the money in my trading account(s). Scottrade clearly has wonderful customer service and they are continually adding more and more features to their trading platforms. Given the amount of free information available on the internet outside of Scottrade plus the amenities that are ever growing at Scottrade I believe this to be a premier discount brokerage and one in which I hope to maintain a lasting relationship into the future.

Scottrade has a simple format, but a very very limited trading platform which is time consuming. I would not recommend this broker for active trading. On the positive side they do have a feature called Deposit Direct which enables your funds to be available instantly. Also they have over 300 branches. In my experience the brokers there are almost like zombies, and seem to be negligent when it comes to security. When you need money out of your account they will mail you a check, I received my check with in 2 business days. Have fun.

The price per trade is fairly reasonable at $7. The interface seems outdated and just really lacking. If I traded a bit more seriously I would consider switching.. I'm sure there are better brokerages.

I have been actively trading with Scottrade for a few months. I actually encourage my friends to use it too; if they do, we each get seven free trades. The costumer service is great. Aside from setting up my account and a question or two, I never had to use them because I never had any problems. The stock news is very timely and is a great source for day trading. The charts are nice. Everything is clear and easy. You will not be disappointed. Highly recommended.

Easy to use online interface, and a friendly staff in town to help if you need to call or visit. My one complaint is that they do not allow you to transfer money into your account to immediately purchase stocks UNDER $5. You must have the money in there for three business days. I called my local office and they allowed me to for one-time only. $7 trades are pretty good still though.

I currently use scottrade after switching over from fidelity. big pro is 7 dollar trades. big con is that when you sell a stock, takes a few days to get your money available to make another trade. fidelity was instant. so overall 7 dollar trades are nice which is why i use scottrade, otherwise if not for that i think fidelity is better and would stay with them.

Having level, low commissions is nice. The flip-side of that is you can't really expect much. I can't speak to their customer relations, because I do all of my trading/research online. That being said, the user interface is pretty intuitive, which is good.

I have been trading with Scottrade for several years and I could not be happier. I am an internet client but when I call up the brokers treat me like one of their traditional clients. Their online trading platforms are awesome, both the Scottrade Streaming and the Scottrade Elite platforms. Their commissions are nice and low and you get a great value.

Overall I'm very satisfied with the customer service and order filling. I've only been with them a few months, but every trade so far has been as good as you could expect. I do like their streaming quotes and the charting is fairly good, and the daily and yearly high and lows can be useful as well.

Generally, Scottrade is pretty good. Reliablity of order fulfillment, cheap trades.

However, if you want to short, choose another broker, because they either won't have shares, or apparently will misinterpret the Sept 18th SEC temporary order and use it as an excuse to cover your position, and then BS you when you ask about it.

I have been trading big for years and now mostly ETF's and recently just SPY and SDS. I use Scottrade because of ratings showing that they execute trades very fast and with a good market order price; and it seems so. Shares are pretty much no longer available to short, so I use inverse ETF's instead. Their margins rates and interest on cash are pretty good; for me that's about 5.65% and 0.75%.

If your a an active trader or day trader, Scottrade isn't for you. I have used them for awhile, as a pro they are ok for longs but never for active trading or day trading and do not use their software or interface for your sole homework outdated at best. Overall though nothing horrible to say about them especially if you just want to dabble.
