I have been using IB for about 2 years and am very happy with them. They have so much to offer that their site can be intimidating at first but they have an 800 help number and their people are a joy to talk to. I really like their smart routing particulary with options where the bid/ask can be very different from one exchange to another. Smart Routing will get you the best price. If you trade small amounts the cost of a trade can be $1.00 and there are no maintenance fees.

I've been using them for years now and to make a long story short:
Great pricing, cheapest commissions around, access to all markets and excellent system.

Horrible (and I mean, horrible to suckingly bad) customer service. I hardly have to contact them for anything but when I do, it's like a visit to the dentist.

In my view, the pros outweight the cons, that's why I still use them. If you are a beginner with questions, don't even bother to try them, they can literally hung up the phone on you.

I tried to open an account with them online and I kept getting error messages before completing it. they said it's my browser first remove all cookies and history I did no luck. tried safari -nopoe doesn't work with that either. they said get firefox. I did-didn't work with that either halfway through another error message. so i tried a paper app and opened friends and family took 2 weeks they opened the accunt but it's only a shell account now open client account oops you need to fill out another very long app and you have to give a new email address. oops don't have another and on and on and on.
went back and tried an individual account oops error halfway through.
monumental waste of time. Most unfriendly anything I've ever used.
